NEW DELHI - A couple working in a bank in south Delhi who fraudulently withdrew money from a customer’s account have been arrested, police said Monday.
According to police, Prem Prakash Singh and Kanchan, who work in a bank in Chittranjan Park, stole the cheques of Jagroop Singh when he went to the bank to open a savings account and forged his signature to draw Rs.2 lakh from his account.
Singh filed a complaint after he detected the fraudulent withdrawal.
Apart from the couple, three others - Mohammad Ali, Naushad and Shamim - have been arrested.
Police investigation revealed that Kanchan, who had assisted Jagroop Singh in filling documents for opening his account, stole a couple of cheques from his chequebook while he had gone to get some documents photocopied.
“With her husband, Prem Prakash who also was an executive in the bank, she forged Jagroop’s signature and siphoned the money to Ali’s account. Naushad and Shamim who also were partners in this plan, withdrew their share from different accounts in different banks,” a police official told IANS.
“The role of Kanchan and Prem Prakash in any previous such cases is being verified,” the police official added.
