NEW DELHI - A city court Saturday questioned an Uttar Pradesh jail’s official for a delay in presenting don Om Prakash Srivastava alias Babloo Srivastava before it in connection with an extortion case.

Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Shalinder Kaur issued notice to superintendent of jail, Bareilly, where the gangster is lodged.

“Please explain as to why the authorities failed to produce him (Srivastava) on time during this on-going trial against him,” the court said.

The court has sought a response from the official by Sep 13, the next date of hearing.

The court issued the notice as Babloo was presented before it in the afternoon even though the matter was put up for hearing at 10 a.m. Babloo is brought to the capital from Bareilly jail for every hearing in the case.

Srivastava is allegedly involved in 40 cases of murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and other serious offences in different parts of the country.

He is presently lodged in Bareilly jail in connection with some cases in Uttar Pradesh.

Srivastava was extradited from Singapore in 1995.
