Man posing as tax official to extort money held

NEW DELHI - A man who posed as an income tax (IT) official and attempted to exhort Rs.30 lakh from a businessman has been arrested, police said Sunday.

Dinesh Kumar, 24, was apprehended near the Millenium Park in Sarai Kale Khan in south Delhi Saturday following investigations into a complaint from the businessman who was asked to shell out Rs 30 lakh for closing a “complaint”.

According to police, Dinesh Kumar was arrested when he came to collect the first installment of Rs. 1 lakh from the businessman. He had previously worked as an informer with the IT department and was aware of its working, police said.
