KOLKATA - A Class 9 girl student was allegedly beaten black and blue by her Bengali teacher for writing a poetry in a classmate’s notebook in school, prompting the teenager’s parents to file a police complaint.
Susmita Mondal, a student of the Chowhati High School in South 24 Parganas district, was thrashed by the lady teacher who took the girl to task for being ‘inattentive’ in class.
“The teacher started hitting me without any wrongdoing on my part. She told me that I was beaten because I wrote poetry on my classmate’s notebook. I told her that I was not well, please don’t hit me, but I could not save myself from her savage blows,” Susmita said Friday.
Susmita became unconscious after the beating late last week and her friends took her to a nearby hospital for treatment and informed her parents.
Her parents filed a police complaint against the teacher Thursday.
“We have filed a police complaint against the teacher and we want justice. The teacher doesn’t have the right to hit my daughter in such a manner,” said Susmita’s mother.
