MOGA - A day after a man shot dead his daughter and her lover in an honour killing case in this Punjab district, the police are still clueless about the attacker’s whereabouts and have failed to arrest him.
According to the police, Jagtar Singh shot dead his daughter Lovepreet Kaur, 17, and her lover Harjinder Singh, 22, Thursday in Chandpurana village here.
“We are conducting raids at various places in Moga and in the neighbouring districts. We have got some vital clues about the whereabouts of the accused and are hopeful of arresting him soon,” Partap Singh, a police officer, told IANS Friday.
“Lovepreet and Harjinder were seeing each other for the last many months. Around 1 a.m. Thursday, Harjinder went to Lovepreet’s house to meet her,” the oficer said.
“Jagtar found the couple in an objectionable position and could not control his anger. He fired at both of them. On hearing the gunshots, Harjinder’s brother, who was waiting outside, came to intervene. He also sustained a bullet injury in the thigh,” Singh said.
Lovepreet belonged to a Jat Sikh family whereas Harjinder was a Dalit, studying at Industrial Training Institute (ITI) here.
