All states asked to curb honour killings

NEW DELHI - A detailed advisory has been sent by the home ministry to all the states and union territories to take appropriate measures to curb incidents of honour killings, parliament was told Tuesday.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramchandran told the Lok Sabha that the ministry has advised all the states to take comprehensive review of the effectiveness of the machinery in tackling the problem of violence against women and the problem of honour killings.

He also said that the government is deeply concerned with the crime of honour killings and other such forms of violence.

Ramchandran also informed the members that the issue of honour killings was not discussed during the recent conference of chief ministers.
