Canadian man sets a fire in front of PM’s house

OTTAWA - A man has been arrested for setting a fire in front of the official residence of Canadian Prime Minster Stephen Harper in Ottawa Saturday night.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said they found a man burning some liquid near the 24 Sussex Drive residence, but refused to comment on whether the prime minister and his family were at home when the incident occurred, Xinhua reported Sunday.

Police, however, said the family was not exposed to any danger during that time, but that it prompted them to close roads in the vicinity.

In 1995, a knife-wielding man broke into the prime minister’s residence while then incumbent Jean Chretien and his wife, Aline, were at home. They couple locked the bedroom door to keep the intruder out.
