Small plane crashes into Lake Erie off Ohio
TOLEDO, Ohio — Authorities in Ohio say a small plane crashed into Lake Erie, and a witness says it appears four people got out unhurt.
Operators of a ferry line say the plane went down around 11:30 a.m. near their boat dock on South Bass Island about halfway between Toledo and Cleveland.
Someone on a boat nearby told WTOL-TV in Toledo that he saw the plane coming in for what looked like a water landing before it skipped across the surface.
The witness says that the plane’s nose dropped into the water and that four people appeared to get out safely.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s office says authorities are tending to four people now on the island.
