Building collapses in Detroit; 6 firefighters hurt
DETROIT — Authorities say six firefighters have been injured during a building collapse on Detroit’s east side.
Detroit Fire Department Lt. Theresa Halsell says the firefighters were responding to a blaze at the building Friday morning when it collapsed.
Halsell says the six were taken to a local hospital for treatment. She says there was no immediate word on their condition.
Television footage shows a large, billowing cloud of dark smoke obscuring the scene of the collapse. Numerous fire trucks, ambulances and rescue vehicles are on the street outside the building.
