CHANDIGARH - Two Chandigarh police officers were arrested here Wednesday evening by the anti-corruption branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for taking bribe from a person for helping him in a case, a CBI official said.
According to the CBI officials, they have arrested inspector Dilsher Singh, station house officer of industrial area (phase-I), and sub-inspector Hans Raj.
The CBI has also arrested two more people, Satwant Sethi and Jujhar Singh Sethi, for acting as middlemen between these tainted cops and the complainant.
“Dilsher and Hans Raj had demanded Rs.100,000 from Gagan Gupta, the complainant, to help him in coming out clean of a criminal case. The final deal was struck at Rs.40,000. Gupta contacted us before delivering the money,” a CBI official said.
“We laid a trap and arrested Satwant Sethi and Jujhar Singh Sethi who had come on behalf of the policemen to accept the money. Raids have been conducted at the houses of the two policemen,” he added.
Dilsher Singh is one of the most flamboyant officers of Chandigarh police. His name has figured in controversial cases earlier as well.
