NEW DELHI - The Central Information Commission (CIC) has got at least seven complaints of harassment and threat from users of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, parliament was informed Wednesday.
“The CIC has enquired into these complaints and passed appropriate orders,” Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Prithviraj Chavan told the Lok Sabha.
But the minister denied that the Chief Information Commissioner had stated that CIC had neither the mechanism nor guidelines to safeguard the interests of RTI activists.
The Indian Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure exist to deal with such threats, he said in reply to a question from Rayapati Sambasiava Rao and five other members.
