Man burned in deadly Calif. van crash improves
BISHOP, Calif. — A San Diego County man who was badly burned in a van crash that killed three people and injured 16 others is improving.
A hospital spokesman says 22-year-old Drew Delis of Encinitas is in fair condition Wednesday. He remains in the burn clinic at a Bakersfield hospital.
Delis was in a sport utility vehicle that went out of control Monday night south of Bishop near the eastern Sierra Nevada. The SUV struck a van carrying members of a cross-country team from California Baptist University in Riverside. Delis was among four people critically injured. Updates on the others’ conditions were not immediately available.
Authorities say the van was heading to a high-altitude training camp in Mammoth and the SUV may have been returning from the camp.
It’s not known who was driving the SUV.
