NEW DELHI - A 52-year-old man attempted suicide Friday by jumping before a train at Delhi’s Janakpuri East metro station, an official said.

He is recuperating at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital.

The incident occurred at 8.15 a.m. “The train operator immediately applied emergency brakes and the person was rescued at 8.25 a.m.,” said a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson.

The train was going towards NOIDA city centre from Dwarka Sector 9 metro station.

The incident led to delay in metro services on the line for about 30 minutes. The services were resumed at 8.45 a.m. after necessary checks, the spokesperson added.

A metro official said: “Prima facie, the incident may have been a case of attempted suicide.”

Investigations are on, police said.
