Abu Dhabi soil study to help criminal investigation

Abu Dhabi, Aug 1 (IANS/WAM) A new soil survey report presented by the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi (EAD) will help police to investigate criminal cases, besides assisting farmers and developers evaluate potential of land.
“Thanks to the maps we’ve produced, farmers, planners and developers can now better evaluate the potential of soil for agricultural and engineering purposes,” said Razan Al Mubarak, Assistant Secretary General of EAD.
“Today, the survey will help yet another important stakeholder of ours, the Abu Dhabi Police, seeing it become an important tool for them to solve crime,” he said.
Colonel AbdulRahman Al Hammadi, Director of the Forensic Evidence Department at Abu Dhabi Police, explained how the study can be helpful in solving crimes.
It is possible to link a criminal or suspect to a crime scene by using soil residue found in the clothes, shoes or inside vehicles. Soil evidence can be used to solve a number of cases, from murders, property damage, and theft to the illegal hunting of animals, he said.
