Class VIII Delhi student shot after minor scuffle

NEW DELHI - A class eight student of a school in Saket locality of south Delhi was injured Wednesday after he was shot by his senior with an air pistol when two groups of children clashed over a minor issue, police said.

According to the police, the incident took place in Veer Chandra Garwhal Government Sarvodaya Boys school in Saket at around 9 a.m and the injured has been identified as Gaurav Yadav, a class VIII student.

“The Class IX student opened fire using an air pistol when two groups of students clashed in the playground over some issue,” a police officer told IANS.

“The student had brought the pistol, which he found lying on the road, to the school. When both the groups were quarrelling, he allegedly fired at Gaurav, who suffered minor injuries in the shoulder,” the official said.

The victim was rushed to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre and was later discharged.

The accused has been taken into police custody.
