Reports: Pa. zinc plant evacuated after explosion

MONACA, Pa. — Emergency officials in western Pennsylvania say a zinc smelting plant is being evacuated after reports of an explosion and fire.

The Beaver County Times is reporting that it happened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, but it’s not known whether anyone has been injured.

Emergency dispatchers say crews, including fire trucks and a hazardous materials team, are on the way to the plant. It’s run by Horsehead Corp.
