NDRF personnel assist in rescue, relief at accident site

NEW DELHI - About 140 personnel of the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) are assisting in relief operations at Sainthia in West Bengal, where 60 people were killed when a passenger train rammed into another early Monday, a home ministry spokesperson said.

While three teams reached the spot in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, about 190 km from Kolkata, in the morning, the rest reached by afternoon to assist in rescue and relief operations.

At least 60 people were killed and 150 injured when the Sealdah-bound Uttar Banga Express rammed into the stationary Bhagalpur-Rachi Vananchal Express in Sainthia at about 2.15 a.m.
