NEW DELHI - Six members of a family died when their house in Brahmpuri area of northeast Delhi collapsed early Wednesday, police said.

The three-storied building had been in a bad shape after Monday’s heavy rains.

According to the neighbours, the family had noticed some cracks in the wall and was planning to shift out Wednesday.

“The building collapsed around 4 a.m. this morning. Three men and three women were sleeping in the house at the time. All of them are dead,” a police officer said.

A hotel was being run on the building’s ground floor while the family stayed on the other two floors.

The police officer said the valuable items were being collected from the debris. These will be handed over to their relatives.

On Monday, the city witnessed 51.6 mm of rains which led to flooding of streets and traffic jams in many parts of the national capital.

The rains coupled with heavy winds also led to the uprooting of many trees and caused damage to many properties across Delhi.
