GHAZIABAD - A Delhi-based trader was shot at by two unidentified assailants in his house here Monday, police said. A property dispute is suspected to be the reason for the attack.

According to police, Ravi Prakash Gupta, owner of a spare parts store at Delhi Gate, wanted to sell his house in Rajendra Nagar area here. He was discussing the matter with two property dealers and three prospective buyers this morning when the assailants entered the house and opened fire before escaping.

One of the bullets hit Gupta in the thigh. He was admitted to a local private hospital where he was stated to be out of danger.

Police initially said the assailants came with an intention of robbery but changed the reason to a dispute over property.

Circle Officer (Border) Rajeev Kumar said: “The Gupta family wanted to sell their house. There could be somebody who did not want them to sell the house to a particular party. Also, the family could have denied selling the property to someone who resorted to avenge it in this manner.”

“The matter is being investigated,” he said.

A case of attempt to murder was registered at Sahibabad police station.
