Three arrested for cheating traders

NEW DELHI - Three members of a family, including a woman, were arrested in the capital for cheating metal traders from West Bengal of Rs.87 crore, police said Monday.

Lalit Gupta, 38, his wife Rajni Gupta, 34, and his father Ram Kumar Gupta, 68, were arrested from Shakti Nagar in north Delhi Sunday following specific information.

“They purchased iron bars from traders in Kolkata and used to pay through cheques which would be rejected by banks. In this way they cheated various firms to the tune of more than Rs.87 crore,” a police officer said.

According to police, the family was found involved in a number of such cases.
