NEW DELHI - A hunt is on for a sweetmeat shop owner who attempted to kill a man by throwing hot oil on him and beat up his brother following an argument in north Delhi, police said Sunday.
An attempt to murder case has been registered by Roop Nagar police against the shop owner Rajiv for the incident that took place Saturday evening, police said.
“Rajiv is still absconding. One of the victims Pradeep Goyal, 44, is battling for his life in hospital with 40 percent burns while his brother Narendra Goyal, 36, is in a stable condition,” said a police official.
The incident took place in Kamla Nagar when Pradeep and Narendra were returning home in their car.
The argument started when they found some utensils of the shop lying scattered on the road, blocking their way, police said.
According to Pradeep’s son Tanuj: “My father told him (Rajiv) to remove the utensils which were lying on the road, but he did not listen.”
“My uncle came out of the car and he also requested him. However, he got into an argument with my father and uncle,” said Tanuj.
During the argument, the shop owner along with his staff picked up a rod like object from inside the shop and beat his father and uncle, he said.
Police said Rajiv threw hot oil on Pradeep and also hit him on his head. His brother was also attacked.
The two victims were rushed to Parmanand Hospital, police said.
