PM’s security must have human face: BJP

NEW DELHI - Expressing concern over the death of a seven-year-old Kanpur boy, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday said though the prime minister’s security is a must, it must have a “human face”.
“We appreciate the concern for prime minister’s security, but it must have a human face. Deep condolences to the child’s family on behalf of the party,” BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here.
“The security staff of the prime minister should address this issue and take into consideration that such things do not happen again,” he said.
In a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Aman Khan’s mother has said he was being rushed to hospital in a car July 3 after suffering serious head injuries from an accident at home.
She said roads had been blocked for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Kanpur and the diversion caused a critical delay in reaching the hospital and Aman bled to death. She also requested in her letter to ensure that such things don’t happen in future.
National Democratic Alliance convenor and Janata Dal-United chief Sharad Yadav, however, said such steps were necessary for ensuring the prime minister’s security and the security staff had done their job.
