Three electrocuted in flood-hit Ambala

CHANDIGARH - Three people were electrocuted in Haryana’s flood-hit Ambala district, an official said Thursday. Unofficial sources put the toll at five.
The state government has announced Rs.200,000 to the families of the three officially reported dead. The district Red Cross has announced an added Rs.100,000, Ambala Deputy Commissioner S.P. Srow told IANS.
“The situation has definitely improved in most parts of the district and water level has receded substantially,” Srow said.
“No new breach has taken place but the water level at SYL (Satluj-Yamuna Link) canal is still at an alarming level,” he added.
However, power supply has not been restored in most of Ambala following the heavy rains that began Monday.
Rain water submerged the Dhulkot power station due to which officials had to disconnect the power supply.
“Rain water in the power station is making work difficult for us. Our officials are working to pump it out and restore the power supply at the earliest,” power station chief engineer V.K. Gupta said.
Rail traffic was Thursday disrupted at the Ambala railway station, one of the biggest in the region that lies on the route to Delhi. Hundreds of passengers have seen stranded at the station.
