12 die in Uruguay prison fire

Montevideo, July 9 (IANS/EFE) Twelve inmates of a prison were killed and seven others injured when a fire broke out at the facility in eastern Uruguay Thursday, police said.
The incident took place around 4.00 a.m. inside a low-security prison cell in Rocha city. Officials ruled out arson. The injured prisoners were taken to hospitals.
Interior Minister Eduardo Bonomi has visited the prison to assess the situation. Cause of the fire is being probed.
