Tripura court sends ISI agent to police custody

AGARTALA - A Tripura court Monday sent a suspected Pakistani agent and six others, arrested for illegally entering India from Bangladesh, to 10 days police custody.
Suspected agent of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Manir Khan alias Omar Ashraf, 36, was presented in the court in Agartala, along with other accused, and charged with waging war against Indian government, violation of The Passports Act, collection of arms, conspiracy, cheating and violation of The Foreigners Act.
The accused were arrested Saturday night.
“The court after hearing the lawyers of both police and accused sent them to police custody, where senior intelligence officials would interrogate them to unearth the details,” a police official told reporters.
The police official said that during preliminary interrogation Manir Khan admitted that he was in the northeast for sometimes to appoint local youths for the ISI.
“Acting on a tip off, police and intelligence officials arrested the seven people on the outskirts of Agartala late Saturday night,” the official said.
According to the official, some arms and ammunition and a mobile phone were also recovered from them.
