Naina Sahni murder: Sushil Sharma seeks parole
By IANSMonday, July 5, 2010
NEW DELHI - Sushil Sharma, a former Youth Congress leader convicted in the Naina Sahni murder case, moved the Delhi High Court Monday seeking parole to attend to his ailing parents.
In his application, he said that he sought three months’ parole to re-establish social ties with his family members.
Sharma’s earlier parole plea was rejected by the court June 1.
Justice Hima Kohli has asked the Delhi government to submit a report on the matter by July 28.
Sharma was convicted for murdering his wife Sahni, whom he suspected of infidelity. On July 2, 1995, he shot her with his licensed revolver, took her body to a restaurant, chopped the body into small pieces and tried to burn it in the tandoor (oven).
A city court convicted Sharma to death Nov 7, 2003 after which he filed a review petition in the high court.
The high court upheld his death sentence in February 2007. The appeal is now pending in the Supreme Court. Sharma is lodged in Tihar Jail since 2004.
