NEW DELHI - A five-year-old girl was rescued within two hours of her abduction here, police said Monday. Two people have been arrested for the kidnapping.

Sangeeta was kidnapped from outer Delhi’s Bawana area, where her mother Champa Devi is a daily wage worker, said outer Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Chhaya Sharma.

The arrested duo have been identified as Sanjay Yadav, 24, and Savitri, 20, both residents from Jharkhand, police said.

The incident took place when Champa was going to the market with her two daughters. The accused came on a motorbike and kidnapped Sangeeta, police said.

Sanjay, who works as supervisor at a construction site at Maharishi Dayanand University in Haryana’s Rohtak town, told the police that he planned the kidnapping because he wanted Champa to work at his site, where she used to work before.

Savitri, the other accused, works at the same construction site.
