Survivor of 1989 fatal NH fire relieved by arrest
CONCORD, N.H. — A woman who survived a deadly 1989 apartment-house fire in New Hampshire says the California man charged with murder this week in the deaths of four of her neighbors told her that night, “I did a good job, didn’t I?”
Elizabeth Kennedy told The Associated Press on Thursday that David McLeod made the comment after the Keene fire that killed a couple, their baby and his 12-year-old daughter. McLeod was arrested Wednesday in Sacramento.
Authorities aren’t saying what led to the arrest. But they say McLeod was a suspect all along. Other residents told police in 1989 that McLeod may have had grudges against men who lived in the building who he believed had relationships with his ex-girlfriend. They had said McLeod bragged about setting the fire.
