NEW DELHI - A policeman committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver early Wednesday in north Delhi, police said.

Rohtas Kumar, 47, came to Kanjhawala police station for his morning shift around 8.15 a.m. and shot himself on the building’s terrace 15 minutes later.

“Before coming to the police station, we had tea together. We reached the police station at 8.15 a.m. And we heard the gun shot from the station’s terrace at around 8.30 a.m.,” said a police official.

According to police, no suicide note was found.

Kumar joined Delhi police in 2008 as probationary sub-inspector.

“Before joining Delhi police, he was in the Indian Air Force. As far as I know, he is married. We are probing about his background and the reason for his killing himself,” the police official said.
