NEW DELHI - A court Wednesday sent a Delhi resident arrested on charges of raping his 27-year-old Brazilian tenant to a day’s police custody.

Baljeet Singh was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Munish Markan, who handed over his custody to Delhi police for one day.

“Police asked the court for a five-day custody but got it for one day,” said Shakti Chand, counsel for Singh.

According to police, the victim, a mass communications student in Noida, was staying in south Delhi’s C.R. Park area since June 19.

She lodged a police complaint June 27 saying her landlord raped her twice June 20-21.

Earlier this year, two men posing as tourist guides in the national capital robbed and raped two Dutch women in Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi.
