Wildfire near Flagstaff now 50 percent contained
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — A wildfire burning in Arizona that threatened homes in Flagstaff and has charred an estimated 15,000 acres has been declared 50 percent contained.
U.S. Forest Service officials said Friday night that full containment of the so-called Schultz fire isn’t expected until at least July 2.
Four air tankers, 901 firefighters and seven helicopters are battling the blaze, which was started Sunday by an abandoned campfire.
The Forest Service is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
Forest Service officials say the fire has burned more than 23 square miles of scenic northern Arizona forest and has cost more than $5.8 million to fight.
