Five arrested for robbing Rs.16 lakhs from Delhi trader

NEW DELHI - A gang of five robbers involved in a daylight robbery earlier this month were arrested Thursday from south Delhi, police said Friday.

“Kesar Ali,27, Krishan, 32, Qamar Abbas, 32, Alimuddin,23 and Sonu Chaudhary,20, were apprehended Thursday,” a senior police official said.

According to police, one of the accused entered a trader’s shop around 3.30 p.m. on June 9 on the pretext of asking an address. Soon after his associates who were carrying guns also joined him. They robbed the trader of Rs. 16.5 lakh at gun point.

Police on Thursday received a secret information that three of the accused will be coming to Sarai Kale Khan area.

“We arrested Qamar Abbas, Alimuddin and Sonu Chaudhary from Sarai Kale Khan. During their search, one revolver along with four live cartridges was recovered from Qamar Abbas and two country-made pistols and four live cartridges were recovered from Alimuddin and Chaudhary,” the official said.

During interrogation Abbas disclosed that Kesar Ali and Kishan will be coming to Kalindi Kunj parking in the evening.

“We apprehended the remaining two on the same evening,” police added.

During questioning they (accused) revealed that one of their associates Dheeraj gave them the information about the trader’s shop.

“Dheeraj got to know from his associate that this trader will keep this much amount in his shop on the day of the robbery and then he (Dheeraj) passed on this information to the accused”, the official added.

According to police, Rs.3.5 lakhs was recovered from the looted money.
