Report: 27 detained over Turkish bomb attack
ANKARA, Turkey — Turkey’s state-run news agency says police have detained 27 people for questioning over a bomb attack in Istanbul that killed five people.
A Kurdish militant group linked to autonomy-seeking Kurdish rebels claimed Tuesday’s attack on a bus that was carrying military personnel and their families. The dead included the 17-year-old daughter of an officer.
The Anatolia news agency says police detained 27 people on Wednesday, without citing any sources. Istanbul Police Chief Huseyin Capkin confirmed that a number of suspects were rounded up, but gave no other detail.
Kurdish rebels have escalated attacks in Turkey in recent weeks. Seventeen soldiers have been killed in rebel attacks since Friday.
Authorities have stepped up security throughout the country.
