NEW DELHI - Saying honour killings were nothing but cold-blooded murders, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday demanded that fast-track courts be set up to deal with the growing incidence of such cases.

“The BJP demands that fast track courts must be set up to deal with such cases so that such practices do not continue,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters here.

In an alleged honour killing, a couple who had married four years ago against the wishes of the girl’s parents were found murdered in north Delhi’s Ashok Vihar area.

While 26-year-old Kuldeep was found shot dead in his car Sunday evening, his wife Monica, 23, died after being attacked by a sharp object at their house. Shobha, a cousin of the woman, was also found murdered.

In another incident, a 19-year-old girl and her boyfriend were tortured to death by the girl’s uncle and father in north Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area June 14.

“Honour killings are nothing but cold-blooded murder which should be dealt with,” he added.
