Rio de Janeiro, June 20 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Over 32,000 people have been displaced in Brazil’s Alagoas state due to floods caused by heavy rains, the civil defence service said Sunday.

Heavy rains are still continuing for the third week. Residential buildings in 21 localities have been flooded.

Meanwhile, 39 towns in Alagoas have sounded an situation due to dengue fever. More than 6,000 people have contracted the disease since the year start, officials said.

They said rains and subsequent flooding have increased the number of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, who are the key transmitters of the disease to humans.
