MELBOURNE - A second Australian teenager was arrested Friday for the murder of Indian accounting graduate Nitin Garg in Melbourne over five months ago.
According to police, the 16-year-old from Yarraville has been charged with accessory to murder and has been bailed to appear at a children’s court at a date to be set, the Age reported Friday.
On Thursday, a 15-year-old Australian boy was arrested in Yarraville in connection with the murder of Garg, 21, who was stabbed Jan 2 as he walked through Cruickshank Park in Melbourne’s west on his way to a Yarraville Hungry Jack’s outlet where he worked part-time.
After the stabbing, Garg staggered to the fast food outlet, at the corner of Somerville and Geelong roads, and later died.
The teenager arrested Thursday, who was not identified for legal reasons, was remanded in custody to reappear in October.
Detective Inspector Bernie Edwards of the Homicide Squad said police did not believe race was a factor in the murder.
“(As per) our inquiries, at this stage, we don’t believe it was racially motivated,” he told reporters.
