Poland’s Kaczynski visits twin’s tomb on birthday
WARSAW, Poland — Jaroslaw Kaczynski, a leading candidate in Poland’s presidential election this weekend, has visited the grave of his identical twin brother — the leader whose death in a plane crash forced the early vote.
He made the visit Friday, his and his brother Lech’s 61st birthday.
Jaroslaw Kaczynski descended into the crypt of Krakow’s Wawel Cathedral and placed flowers at the sarcophagus holding his brother and his sister-in-law, Maria. He was joined by Marta, the couple’s daughter.
The president and first lady died April 10 with 94 others in a plane crash in Russia that killed many top civilian and military officials.
The other main contender, parliament speaker Bronislaw Komorowski, had visited the tomb the day before. The election is Sunday.
