NEW DELHI - An imposter who appeared as a candidate for the Bachelor of Technology programme of the Jamia Milia Islamia University was caught by varsity authorities during the selection interview Friday, a day after an impersonator was apprehended for similar reasons.

Gulam Ahamad Raza was appearing for the interview in place of Irshad, a B.Tech aspirant who has been accused of hiring him.

“They had settled on an amount of Rs.25,000 if the candidate was selected,” a statement issued by varsity media coordinator Simi Malhotra said.

The deception was revealed with the interview committee observed that the “photograph on the application form of a candidate called did not match with the one appearing for the interview”, it said.

The matter has been reported to the proctor of the university for necessary action. The candidate has also been handed over to the police for registration of a first information report by the university administration.

This is the sixth impersonation case identified by the authorities this year.

On Thursday, a student who sent an impersonator to write his engineering entrance exam at the university was caught by the interview board because of a photograph taken on the test day.

The photograph taken by the university administration May 29 during the entrance test did not match with that of Mohammed Ishtiyaque Alam, who appeared for the interview Thursday.

Earlier, the university had announced that candidates appearing for entrance tests and interviews at the university will be photographed.
