Dozens of pets killed in house fire in Washington
WESTPORT, Wash. — Firefighters in Washington state say dozens of pets were killed in a house fire.
Westport Fire Chief Dennis Benn says 15 cats, 10 dogs and a half-dozen birds died when a two-story house in Westport went up in flames Monday. Three adults found in the home were hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
Benn told The Aberdeen Daily World that firefighters were able to save 38 dogs and 1 cat from the house.
Benn said he did not know why the family had so many pets. They did not appear to be related to a business.
The fire apparently started in an upstairs bedroom. Damage is estimated at $250,000.
