KOLKATA - The Alumni Association of La Martiniere for Boys school here Wednesday showed solidarity with their school but said the truth should come out regarding the suicide of Class 8 student Rouvanjit Rowla.

Members of the Alumni Association of La Martiniere told reporters that they were not defending the principal who, along with four other teachers, faces a police complaint for having allegedly inflicted physical and mental torture on Rouvanjit.

“We stand by our school. We are not here to defend the principal. We want the truth to come out,” said association member Asit Luthra.

Rouvanjit committed suicide by hanging himself Feb 12. It was alleged that the Class 8 student took this drastic step after months of humiliation both physically and mentally allegedly at the hands of his teachers and principal.

His father has filed the police complaint against the principal, Sunirmal Chakravarthi, and four other teachers saying their torture had driven his son to suicide.

On Tuesday Chakravarthi, apologized for having caned the student but claimed that it had no connection with the boy committing suicide.
