NEW DELHI - In a dowry harassment case, the Delhi High Court Wednesday told a man to inflict injuries to his body similar to the ones on his wife’s body.
The court gave the order after Arjun, a lawyer, said that the injuries on his wife’s body were self-inflicted. It asked him to prove his innocence by inflicting similar injuries to himself.
The court’s order followed his claim that his wife had slapped a false dowry harassment case on him.
Arjun, husband of Neha, had approached the court seeking anticipatory bail.
Taking strong exception to the husband’s claim, Justice S.N. Dhingra directed Arjun to appear before the Station House Officer (SHO) of Prashant Vihar Thursday and inflict similar injuries to his body as on his wife’s body.
The petitioner claimed that his wife has slapped false cases against him as no incident of beating her ever took place in their house.
The court directed the SHO to video record the whole scene and conduct a medical test of Arjun and take opinion of doctors. The court also told him to compare his medical report with that of his wife.
The court posted the matter for further hearing June 21.
Arjun and Neha got married April 16, 2007. They have a daughter.
On Oct 24, 2008, Neha lodged a complaint against Arjun which was converted into the First Information Report (FIR) Sep 8, 2009 under sections of dowry harassment.
Arjun’s anticipatory bail was rejected by the trial court.
