17 die in Mexico prison shoot-out

Mexico City, June 15 (IANS/EFE) A shoot-out between inmates at a prison in western Mexico left 17 prisoners dead, the Sinaloa state Attorney General’s Office said.

The clashes erupted after an altercation among the inmates Monday. Two police officers were injured. Soldiers later restored the order at Mazatlan prison.

Sinaloa is one of the most violent states in Mexico, as most of the country’s drug kingpins operate there.
