Police: Up to 3 confirmed missing in Ark. flood
LANGLEY, Ark. — Authorities dramatically narrowed their search Sunday to up to three missing people believed to have been in a popular campground when flash floods tore through, believing more than a dozen others who were unaccounted for were not in the area at the time.
When the search for survivors and bodies was halted for the night on Saturday, state police said 22 people were still not accounted for.
State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said Sunday that police have only confirmed that three missing people were in the Albert Pike Recreation Area during the pre-dawn Friday flash floods, and that many of the others are not believed to have been in the danger area.
Sadler said authorities have not yet contacted all of the people still unaccounted for but not believed to have been in the campground.
Eighteen people have been confirmed killed in flash floods that swept through the popular Albert Pike Recreation Area before dawn on Friday.
Crews resumed their search for survivors and bodies early Sunday morning.
