NEW DELHI - A Right to Information Act (RTI) activist Sunday said his name had been misused to file a petition, in what could be the first such case since the transparency law came into existence.

Subhash Chandra Agarwal said that his name was used to send a RTI application to Air India’s public information officer (PIO), seeking specific information about a general manager in the airline’s vigilance department.

“I got a letter from the Air India PIO dated May 10 and it was then I got to know about a RTI petition which was sent in my name,” he said.

Agarwal said that he called up the PIO and asked for a copy of the RTI application and the reply.

“I think this is the handy work of an Air India insider. His motive may have been to settle some scores by filing the application,” Agarwal alleged.
