NEW DELHI - A gang of Bangladeshi burglars, involved in 21 cases of burglaries and thefts in posh localities of south Delhi, has been busted, police said Sunday.

The three-member Bangladeshi gang, comprising Mohammad Babu alias Mental, 39, Mohammad Suman, 23, and Mohammad Sujan, 25, was arrested Saturday from Lodhi Colony.

“We have busted a gang of burglars of Bangladeshi origin involved in 21 cases of burglaries and thefts in posh localities of south Delhi,” a senior police official said.

The police team constituted to nab the burglars received a tip-off about the movement of the gang leader ‘Mental Babu’.

“He was arrested from P.V. Hostel area near Dayal Singh College,” the official said.

During interrogation, it was revealed that the gang members had made their hideouts in Noida area to commit crime in south Delhi.

“After three-four heists they would go either to West Bengal or to Bangladesh to dispose of the stolen articles to avoid recovery by the police in case of arrest,” he said.

A case under Arms Act and The Foreigners Act was registered against the three burglars at the Lodhi Colony police station.

Police have recovered gold jewellery worth Rs.2 lakh, coins of different countries and house-breaking implements from them.
