Dantewada police chief shifted out

RAIPUR - The police chief of Chhattisgargh’s Dantewada district, a Maoist hotbed where the left wing rebels massacred 76 security personnel April 6, was shifted out of his post late Friday, official sources said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Amresh Mishra’s transfer assumed much significance as the union home ministry had recommended action against him along with Bastar Inspector General of Police T.J. Longkumer for “command failure” as per E.N. Rammohan Committee report that probed the slaughter of security men in Dantewada by Maoists.
Official sources said Mishra, a 2005 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has been shifted to police headquarters here in the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB).
The union home ministry had recommended action against the two IPS officers after it shunted out Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) deputy inspector general in Dantewada Nalin Prabhat, commandant of the 62nd battalion V.K. Bisht and inspector Sanjeev Bagree, based on the report of a one-man inquiry committee headed by former Border Security Force (BSF) director general E.N. Rammohan.
It was not known immediately that whether the Chhattisgarh government had shifted out Mishra going by the recommendations or was it just a routine transfer.
Besides Mishra, 12 other same rank officers including the district police chief of state capital have been issued new posting orders.
