NEW DELHI - Three Delhi Police constables, including a woman head constable, were Thursday suspended and an assistant sub-inspector was transferred pending an inquiry into the alleged forced stripping of a woman at a west Delhi police post May 22.
“Three constables, including a woman head constable, have been suspended and an assistant sub-inspector of Mayapuri police station has been transferred,” senior police official told IANS.
“Now a vigilance inquiry will take place to find out all the facts,” the official said.
The policemen were suspended after Mayuri (name changed), 30, a resident of Mayapuri slum area, alleged that she was forced to strip May 22 by the police in front of her 12-year-old son whom they accused of stealing money from a car.
Sharad Aggarwal deputy commissioner of police (west Delhi) had ordered an inquiry into the matter.
According to the complaint May 22, at the time of the incident Mayuri and her husband went to the police station to find out about their sons who were detained by police.
According to sources in Mayapuri police station, the allegations are false and the children were detained as they were members of a local gang of thieves who targeted cars stopping at traffic signals.
