BSP leader’s son arrested for car crash, out on bail

NEW DELHI - A Bahujan Samaj Party leader’s son, whose Mercedez coupe rammed into a taxi early Thursday morning, killing a woman and injuing the taxi driver, was Friday released on bail, police said.

Dinesh Tawar, 26, was driving a Mercedes coupe around 3.30 a.m. near Africa Avenue in south Delhi when he hit a taxi, killing the 26-year-old woman passenger. THe driver of the taxi waseriously injured.

Dinesh is son of Kanwar Singh Tawar, who contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections on the BSP ticket from the South Delhi constituency.

“He has been released on bail. The investigations are on,” a police official told IANS.

Meanwhile, police are trying to identify the woman who was killed in the accident.

“We used her SIM card to call a couple of numbers on her contact list, but nobody responded positively. We are taking out the call details to ascertain her identity,” the official added.
