NEW DELHI - Two truck robbers were arrested when they were transporting stolen goods in north Delhi, police said Tuesday.

Sonu and Deepak, both 26, were arrested Monday during checking of vehicles in Samaipur Badli area on the basis of a tip-off. The car they were driving was also stolen.

When the police signalled the car to stop, the driver aimed an illegally-made pistol at the policemen and tried to escape but they were caught after a brief chase.

The accused had stolen the car about 20 days ago.

“They were using the stolen car by changing the number plate for committing burglaries and robberies from godowns and trucks located at Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar and Samaipur industrial area,” a senior police official added.

During the day, Sonu worked as a sweeper and Deepak as a helper to masons in their work. Both had recently joined hands to carry out the thefts.
