ZIRAKPUR - Two traffic police constables have been suspended in this Punjab town on charges of harassing people and extorting money from drivers of outstation vehicles, officials said here Tuesday.
Kulbir Singh and Gurvinder Singh were suspended Monday night.
The traffic in-charge of this town in Mohali district, Manjit Singh, has also been transferred to police lines.
“We got many complaints against the constables. They used to reach Zirakpur-Ambala highway at 6 a.m., two hours before time as their actual duty started at 8 a.m. They were harassing public by unnecessarily bullying them. Also, they used to stop vehicles passing through this stretch,” district police chief G.P.S. Bhullar told IANS.
“I directed DSP (deputy superintendent of police), traffic, to probe this matter. After going through his enquiry report, the errant cops have been suspended and the traffic in-charge has been transferred to police lines after a warning,” he said.
